LEWISTON, Idaho – Fall sports schedules for the 2021-22 school have been released and can be found on lcwarriors.com. Warrior Volleyball will kick off the year with trips to Indiana and Arizona in August before jumping into its first full Cascade Conference season. Both cross country and golf will open their seasons in September.
LC State Volleyball played just 14 matches in 2020 in the shortened spring season, so the opportunity for a full conference schedule plus non-conference tournaments is something
Shaun Pohlman and the Warriors will not take for granted.
"We didn't get a chance to do any preseason competitions last year so we are really looking forward to our two preseason tournaments," Pohlman said. "We have some of the toughest opponents in the country in the Cascade Conference, so it is important that we get out and face a preseason schedule that will help us be prepared and battle tested against conference opponents. Last year we got a chance to play just seven other opponents so, as tough as last year was, we will face an even more grueling schedule with those other four opponents returning."
Warrior Volleyball will open the 2021 campaign in Huntington, Indiana at the Forester Invitational on Aug. 20 and 21. The team will then head to Arizona for Arizona Christian's Firestorm Volleyball Classic where they will face former conference opponent Montana State-Northern. The Warriors will open conference play at home on Sept. 3 and 4 when they host Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
Ticket information will be released at a later date.
LC State Cross Country hits the course on Sept. 3 at Eastern Washington's NW Clash. Another big race for the Warriors will be the Taylor University Invitational in Indiana. LC will host the Warrior Invitational on Oct. 16 in at the LC State Cross Country Trail in the Lewiston Orchards before gearing up for the conference championships on Nov. 5. Nationals will be held in Vancouver, Wash. on Nov. 19.
"We are definitely excited about the upcoming season and the schedule," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "We try to plan the schedule out so that we can maximize our training without the competitions getting in the way, and I think we have done that this year. We are excited to go back to Indiana and compete, assuming we get travel worked out, as this will give us a chance to race against some of the best in the country outside of our own conference and region, including host Taylor who won the men's national title last year. Their women finished third."
The race in Upland, Ind. will feature a strong group of talented schools along with Taylor and LC State, according to Collins.
"The field will likely also include top 10 teams like Indiana Wesleyan, St. Francis (Ill.), and others," Collins explained. "With us bringing back a men's team that has finished in the top 10 for the past two years and a women's team that brings back all runners, we feel we are ready to go. We are also very excited about nationals being in our backyard in Vancouver, Wash. We have always run well there, both because of location and I think we have a good niche in our training to specifically prepare for that race. The first step will be to get there, then see what happens."
Warrior Golf will begin its first season under first-year head coach
Brady Campbell at the UBC Invitational on Sept. 13 and 14. The men will then travel to Dupont, Wash. for the Saint Martin's Invitational before both teams host the Warrior Invitational at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club on Sept. 27 and 28.
"The men have a strong schedule this fall and we are excited to take on a new challenge," Campbell said. "We are playing at the Saint Martin's Invitational which is a big West Coast Division II event that will be an exciting challenge for us. Our two conference events this fall will be a great test to see where we stand within the CCC early in the year. We are looking forward to hosting a CCC event in the fall and look forward to taking advantage of our course knowledge."
The Warrior women will compete at the George Fox Invitational as part of their slate of non-conference competition. Both LC teams will wrap up the fall season at the Bushnell Invitational on Oct. 17 and 18.
"Our two CCC events will be a good early test for us and we are happy to be hosting one at our home course," Campbell added. "Taking advantage of our experience there will be key. The GFU Invitational will give us some great competition as host George Fox is a Division III power every year."
Warrior Golf will continue its season in the spring with tournaments including the Corban Invitational and Cascade Conference Championships in April.
All schedules are subject to change.
