Warrior Weekly Preview - Oct. 24-30

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Warriors opened the 2022-23 campaign with an 84-80 exhibition victory over the Seattle Mountaineers on Friday and look to carry the momentum into the season-opener at Arizona Christian in Glendale, Ariz., on Oct. 28. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

LC State last faced the Firestorm during the 2020-21 campaign and split a pair of games. The opening contest was the Warriors’ only loss of the regular season. Arizona Christian advanced to the national semifinal last year and held a No. 4 ranking in the final poll.

VOLLEYBALL

LC State Volleyball will host its final home contests of the 2022 season this weekend, including Senior Night on Saturday. The Warriors will take on Warner Pacific and Multnomah in the P1FCU Activity Center.

Friday’s match will follow LC State’s Trunk-or-Treat event, hosted by the Warrior Student-Athlete Advisory Council. The event will take place from 6-7 p.m. in front of the P1FCU Activity Center. Trunk-or-Treat Participants get in to the match for free. 

The Warriors will take on Warner Pacific at 7 p.m. in search of a season sweep. LC defeated the Knights 3-1 in Portland behind 14 kills by Cassidy Nelson and a four-set match record 38 digs by Kenzie Dean. 

LC State will play host to Multnomah on Saturday at 5 p.m., with the team honoring seniors Nelson, Jada Wyms, Kendzee Cloward, Channa Hart, Carli Berntson and Lisi Langi prior to the match. The Warriors defeated the Lions 3-2 in the prior meeting this season aided by 15 kills by Nelson and 12 each from Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Langi. Esther Kailiponi dealt 24 assists in the contest. 

Nelson leads the Cascade Conference in both service aces (47) and aces per set (0.56). Her ace total is the most in the CCC by seven. Wyms is sixth in the conference blocks per set (1.01) and Dean is eighth in digs per set (3.93).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The 2022-23 LC State Women’s Basketball squad will begin its season on Saturday when the Warriors play host to national powerhouse Westmont (Calif.). Tipoff for the season is set for noon with poster signing after the contest. 

The LC State Warriors last played the Westmont Warriors on Dec. 19, 2018 and came away with a 58-49 victory. LC is 3-1 against Westmont dating back to 2005. The Westmont Warriors were ranked No. 2 in the final NAIA poll of the season and advanced to the NAIA’s Round of 16 before falling to Central Methodist (Mo.).
