Warrior Weekly Preview - Oct. 31-Nov. 6

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The LC State Men’s Basketball team plays its first official home games of the season on Thursday when the Warriors host the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge Classic. LC will play Park Gilbert (Ariz.) on Thursday and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Saturday. Tickets are on sale now.

The Warriors opened the 2022-23 season at No. 1 Arizona Christian and fell 73-54 to the NAIA’s top team. Keegan Crosby and Anthony Peoples Jr. led LC State with 12 points each, and Oreon Courtney added 11 with a team-best seven rebounds. The Warriors last faced Park on Jan. 10, 2021 and earned a 76-50 victory. Courtney scored 12 points in the game.

LC State is 18-12 against the Battlin’ Bears dating back to 2003. The Warriors have taken the last four meetings with Rocky Mountain, with the most recent being an 85-81 win in Billings during the 2019-20 season. LC has not faced RMC since joining the Cascade Conference.

CROSS COUNTRY

LC State Cross Country enters postseason action on Friday when the No. 15 men and No. 21 women compete at the 2022 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, in Talent, Ore. The Warriors have not raced against much of the CCC this season, so the races will be a good test ahead of nationals.

Warrior Cross Country last competed at the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals Open, hosted by Seattle Pacific, on Oct. 22. The men placed second, led by Carter Gordon in 11th place, and the women were third, led by Geraldin Correa in second.

A full preview for the conference meet will be released on Thursday.

The Warrior women will host No. 25 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in a pair of games on back-to-back nights this weekend. LC faced the Battlin’ Bears last season and edged the former Frontier Conference for 57-54. Broyles scored 12 points in the contest, Callie Stevens added 11, and Sara Muehlhausen grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots. LC is 26-8 against RMC dating back to 2004 with the two teams splitting the last four meetings.

VOLLEYBALL

Warrior Volleyball will wrap up the regular season this weekend on the road with tilts at Bushnell and No. 3 Corban. LC State is coming off a pair of sweeps in the final home matches against Multnomah and Warner Pacific.

The Warriors upset then-RV Bushnell at home earlier this season, led by 14 kills from Grecia Ung Enriquez. Esther Kailiponi dished 24 assists in the match and Kenzie Dean collected 20 digs. Jada Wyms put up five blocks, including three solos.

LC pulled off a near-upset the next night against Corban when it pushed the visiting Warriors to five sets. LC bested Corban in nearly every statistical category throughout the match with two sets going into extra points. Ung Enriquez led LC with 18 kills in the match, Cassidy Nelson had 15, Lisi Langi added 13 and Wyms tallied 12 to go with six blocks.

The Warriors are very much in the hunt for a spot in the Cascade’s postseason tournament, with the top six seeds advancing to play Nov. 11 and 12.
