Warrior Weekly Preview - Oct. 30-Nov. 5

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The No. 11 LC State Women’s Basketball team is back in the P1FCU Activity Center this week after opening their season in an exhibition against Montana State in Bozeman. The Warriors will take on Whitman College on Nov. 2 in the first official game of the season.

The Warriors are 10-0 with the Blues dating back to 2004. LC took on Whitman in an exhibition last season and won 66-60 behind 32 points from Callie Stevens. The senior drained seven 3-pointers in the non-counting contest. 

Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. for the season opener. Season tickets and streaming passes are on sale now at lcwarriors.com.

CROSS COUNTRY

The postseason has arrived for Warrior Cross Country. LC State will head to Caldwell, Idaho, for the 2023 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Nov. 3. The women will race the 6k at 10 a.m. PT with the men following in the 8k at 11 a.m. PT. 

Live results will be available for the races.

A full preview of the races will be available later this week.

VOLLEYBALL

This week the Warriors are home to close the regular season with matches on Friday and Saturday. They will take on No 3. Eastern Oregon on Friday and finish the weekend with Senior Night against The College of Idaho on Saturday. 

Last weekend on the road the Warriors clinched their spot in the Cascade Conference postseason tournament and will be either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed. The tournament is scheduled to start Nov. 7 with the quarterfinal matchups. 

Friday’s match is sponsored by P1FCU. 

The Warriors are 0-10 against Eastern Oregon dating back to 2012. Earlier this season in La Grande the Warriors were swept with sets scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-21. The Mountaineers have managed to stay within the top five of the national polls all year and advanced to the semifinal of the national tournament last winter. Eastern Oregon is sitting at No. 3 as of the coaches poll that came out on Oct. 25. 

On Saturday the Warriors will celebrate their three graduating seniors before the match starts in the P1FCU Activity Center. LC State will honor Kenzie Dean, Ashlee Bachman and Kierstyn York in a ceremony scheduled for 20 minutes before first serve. The match is sponsored by ICCU and senior citizens get in free. 

LC State is 7-5 against the Yotes dating back to 2012. C of I defeated LC State 3-0 in Caldwell earlier this season. 

Going into the last weekend of conference play, No. 3 Eastern Oregon leads the conference standings with a record of 19-1 in CCC action. Behind EOU is No 6. Corban with a conference record of 18-2, third is No 16. Southern Oregon at 16-4, followed by College of Idaho with a record of 14-6. LC State is currently eighth, one match behind Oregon Tech.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men’s basketball is back on the road this weekend with their second NCAA Division I exhibition. This week the Warriors take on No. 8 Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., after facing No. 10 Arizona on Oct. 20. The Warriors last faced the powerhouse to start the 2021-22 season. Sam Stockton led the team with five assists in the contest and earned a spot on the ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 with a no-look pass against the team his father played for. 

Tipoff in the Kennel is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on SWX.
