WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The No. 10 Warrior women (3-0) will compete in one of the toughest weekends on the schedule in Helena, Mont. LC State will take on No. 5 Carroll (Mont.) (4-2) in a primetime matchup on Friday before facing No. 18 Providence (Mont.) (7-0) to close the trip out on Saturday. The Warriors had last weekend off after defeating Montana Western and Montana Tech, but are looking forward to more action against Frontier Conference teams.
The Saints enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak with victories over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Stephens College (Mo.) and C of I. Carroll was upset by unranked Arizona Christian in Glendale earlier in November and also dropped a matchup with then-No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan. The Warriors are 29-20 against Carroll dating back to 2004 and have won the last three meetings, including the 2021 NAIA Opening Round title game. Ellie Sander had a breakout game against the Saints last season with 20 points and four steals. Jamie Pickens currently leads Carroll in both scoring average (17.5 points per game) and rebounding (10.0 rebounds per game). She also has a team-best 15 assists and 11 blocked shots.
LC State is 37-11 against the Argos dating back to 2004 but lost the last two meetings. The last time the two programs met marked the final game of the 2019-20 season where UP defeated the Warriors in the Frontier Conference Championship, and the postseason was cancelled shortly after. The Argos made a statement with a 69-62 victory over then-No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan to open the 2023-24 season and have also defeated CCC teams Northwest and Corban this year. UP will face SOU on Friday before taking on LC State. Ashlee Maldonado leads the Argos in scoring this season with 19.4 points per game and has dealt 40 assists. Keanna Salave’a is averaging 13.9 rebounds per game.
Callie Stevens currently leads the Warriors with 14.7 points per game, followed by Payton Hymas with 13.3 and Sander at 11.3. Maddie Holm is averaging double-digit rebounds with 10.0 per contest.
