MEN'S BASKETBALL
The LC State Men’s Basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend at the Taco Bell Shootout in Caldwell with a victory over Montana Western and narrow loss to Hope International (Calif.). Freshman Alton Hamilton stepped up in both games with a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double against UMW and a team-high 10 points against HIU. This week the Warriors host Northwest and Evergreen State to kick off CCC play.
“We are excited to open up our conference schedule this week at home against Northwest and Evergreen State,” Head Coach Austin Johnson said. “This group is playing hard as they work towards creating their own identity defensively and offensively. We will be tested in all areas this week. Excited to see how we do.”
The Warriors take on Northwest (1-4) on Thursday looking to even the all-time series since 2002. Northwest holds of 4-3 edge over LC dating back, but it was the Warriors that won the most recent meeting. John Lustig scored 17 points and Grayson Hunt added 13 with 10 rebounds in the 76-70 win in Lewiston last year.
Thursday night is Red Rush so fans are encouraged to wear their red LC State gear. It is also the Ra-Ra Ramen Drive, so fans that bring in a six-pack of ramen will receive a free ticket. The first 25 fans that bring in a six-pack of ramen will also receive a free LC State branded ramen bowl.
The Warriors are 13-6 against the Geoducks (1-4) dating back to 2002 and have won the last five meetings. Davian Brown scored 18 points and Lustig added 13 in an 80-56 victory in Olympia last season, and both Lustig and Hunt scored 16 in Lewiston against the Geoducks.
Friday’s games are sponsored by Happy Day Restaurants. LC State will host Elementary School Day and invites all elementary schools in the LC Valley to the games. It is also Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
