Warrior Weekly Preview - Nov. 6-12

VOLLEYBALL

The Warriors are on the road on Tuesday for the Cascade Conference Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. LC State will travel to Kirkland as the No. 8 seed to take on fifth-seeded Northwest at 7 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The LC State Men’s Basketball team has its official season opener on Wednesday at home and will take on Northwest Indian College in the P1FCU Activity Center. The Warriors will also host No. 2 Arizona Christian on Saturday as part of the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge Classic. The casino is the sponsor of Wednesday’s game as well.

The Warriors are 15-0 against Northwest Indian dating back to 2013. Last year the teams faced each other in an exhibition matchup where the Warriors won 113-40 over the Eagles. John Lustig led the team in the non-counting contest with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Stockton also grabbed 11 boards to go with his 11 points, and Grayson Hunt scored 14 points. 

Arizona Christian is currently the second-ranked team in the NAIA and were No. 1 when the Warriors faced the Firestorm in Arizona last season. ACU took the contest 73-54. Anthony Peoples Jr. led the team with 12 points and two blocked shots. Arizona Christian will take on Eastern Oregon on Friday night before facing the Warriors on Saturday at 5 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The No. 11 Warrior women earned the first victory under first-year head coach Caelyn Orlandi in Thursday’s season opener against NCAA Division III Whitman College. Sophomore Sitara Byrd notched a double-double to lead the Warriors with 18 points and 11 rebounds. LC State hosts the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic this weekend and will take on Montana Western and Montana Tech. 

LC State is 31-13 against UMW dating back to 2004 and haven’t faced the Bulldogs since 2020. The Warriors have won the last three meetings. Montana Western enters the weekend with a 3-0 record after defeating College of Idaho, Bushnell and Dickinson State (N.D.)

The Warriors hold a 40-7 record against the Orediggers of Montana Tech dating back to 2004. LC has taken the last five matchups, including two that went into overtime. Tech took the game into triple-overtime in 2021 before LC won 79-74. Last season, Maddie Holm notched a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds and Callie Stevens scored 15 points with seven rebounds and six assists. The Orediggers enter the weekend with a 2-0 record with wins over Dickinson State and Bushnell. Montana Tech will face Eastern Oregon on Friday in Lewiston before taking on LC State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
