Warrior Weekly Preview - Dec. 11-17

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 8 LC State Women’s Basketball improved to 3-0 in Cascade Conference play and 7-1 overall on Thursday with an 82-62 victory over Walla Walla in the final road contest of 2023. The LC State Warriors host the Corban Warriors on Friday before taking on the Bushnell Beacons on Saturday.

Lewis-Clark State is 9-1 against Corban dating back to 2004 and has not dropped a meeting since the 2004-05 season. The two Warrior teams faced off last season in the CCC tournament where LC won 91-48 behind 20 points from Maddie Holm. Callie Stevens scored 20 points in the regular-season meeting in Lewiston and Holm added 15. Corban enters the weekend 2-6 overall and 1-2 in CCC play with losses to Warner Pacific and Bushnell. 

Friday’s game day sponsor is Inland Cellular.

The LC Warriors are 7-0 against Bushnell dating back to 2009 and took the most recent meeting 62-58 in Lewiston. Holm led the team with 16 points. The Beacons lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (.349) and defeated Corban 53-48 last week behind 19 points and 15 rebounds from Libby Mathis. The Beacons enter the weekend 6-3 overall and 2-1 in CCC play with a loss to Warner Pacific. 

Saturday’s games are sponsored by the McVey Entertainment Group. It is also Toys for Tots Night, and the McVey Entertainment Group will be giving out shirts to those that donate.

Holm leads the CCC in rebounding (10.1), while Ellie Sander leads in 3-point field goal percentage (.419) and assist/turnover ratio (2.7). Sander is third in field goal percentage (.565) just behind Sitara Byrd (.588), and is also fourth in steals per games (2.5) while Byrd is fifth (2.4). Freshman Darian Herring is second in blocked shots per game (1.9).

LC State is the top CCC team in 3-point field goal percentage (.315), assists per game (18.9), steals per game (12.1) and assist/turnover ratio (1.3). The Warriors are one of two CCC teams that remain undefeated in conference play, along with Warner Pacific.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Friday’s battle of the Warriors will feature the only 3-0 men’s basketball teams in the Cascade Conference when LC State hosts Corban. The LC Warriors are coming off of a commanding 94-68 victory over Walla Walla and are 5-4 overall, while Corban edged Bushnell 87-81 to improve to 5-2 overall.  LC will close out the weekend against Bushnell on Saturday. 

“We have two big home games against two of the best teams in our league,” Head Coach Austin Johnson said. “We’re excited to see where we stack up and hope we can keep competing well as a group.”

The LC Warriors are 9-3 against the Corban Warriors dating back to 2005 but have dropped the last two matchups. Davian Brown scored a game-high 26 points to lead LC last season in a 68-58 loss to Corban at home. Reece Van Lierop is the top 3-point shooter in the conference with a 3-point field goal percentage of .536. Aundree Polk leads in 3-pointer made per game (3.0).

LC State is 6-0 against Bushnell dating back to 2009 and won the latest matchup 82-69. John Lustig led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Bushnell leads the CCC in scoring so far this season with 86.2 points per game. The Beacons also lead in 3-point field goal percentage (.385), assists per game (17.0) and assist/turnover ratio (1.6). Spencer Hoffman leads the conference in rebounding (9.6). The beacons enter the weekend with a 504 overall record and 2-1 in CCC play.

Anthony Peoples Jr. is third in the CCC in field goal percentage (.596) and Sam Stockton is second in steals per game (1.8)
