WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The No. 8 LC State Women’s Basketball (6-1) team started Cascade Conference play with a 2-0 record after victories over Northwest and Evergreen State. Conference action continues on Thursday when the Warriors head to Walla Walla University for a matchup with the Wolves.
“Walla Walla is a much-improved team and Coach Tony has done a great job recruiting and coaching his players over there,” Head Coach Caelyn Orlandi said. “We are looking forward to our first away conference game and continuing to improve at practice this week."
LC State is 11-0 against WWU dating back to 2010. In last year’s contest in College Place, the Warriors won 77-50 behind 12 points from Ellie Sander and 11 from Lindsey Wilson. Walla Walla enters the week with a 4-3 record and 1-1 in CCC play. The Wolves took Evergreen State to overtime before falling 80-76, then defeated Northwest 64-55. Chariah Daniels it currently tied with Maddie Holm for the CCC lead in rebounding with 9.7 board per game. She is also third in field goal percentage (.581) and second in steals per game (3.7).
Sitara Byrd is currently second in the CCC in field goal percentage (.585) and Ellie Sander is fourth (.556). Sander is also tied for third in assists per game (3.9), fourth in steals per game (2.6), second in 3-point field goal percentage (.429) and third in assist/turnover ratio (3.0). Byrd is second in the CCC in offensive rebounds per game (3.6), Holm is second in defensive rebounds per contest (7.4) and Darian Herring ranks second in blocked shots per game (2.0).
