CRESWELL, Ore. –
Jorgen Lie Viken and
Deana Caruso earned top-five finishes at the Cascade Conference Golf Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Emerald Valley Golf Club.
Â
The Lewis-Clark State Women's Golf team cruised to a second-place finish; the Warrior men finished in third in a tight race.
Â
"Today was a bit better score wise, but not getting the job done still stings," LC coach
Zach Anderson said. "We put ourselves back into the tournament, but it was just too late."
Â
Junior
Deana Caruso closed out the conference tournament with a 7-over 72 to earn a fifth-place finish. Senior
Alexandra Schmidt finished one shot behind her teammate in sixth.
Â
Freshmen
Kylee Hughes (8th) and
Dallis Shockey (T9th) both shot a 79 on the final day to both finish in the top 10.
Â
For the third straight day, LC State finished with the second-best round, only behind champion No. 1 UBC. The Warriors finished 65-strokes behind the Thunderbirds for the conference title, but held a 42-stroke advantage over third-place Oregon Tech.
Â
"The girls battled again today but struggled," Anderson said. "They locked up second place and had a solid year."
Â
The No. 20 Warrior men tied with Bushnell for the best team round on the day with a 291. No. 10 British Columbia took advantage of the lead it accumulated through the first two days to shoot a 298 and hold on to a one-stroke victory over Bushnell. LC State finished five strokes behind the Thunderbirds.
Â
Viken was only able to card two birdies on his final round and dropped to a tie for second place. Viken finished in a tie with Jackson Muramoto of Bushnell with a tournament total of 215. The pair finished five-strokes behind winner Cade Stubbs of Bushnell.
Â
"Really proud of the seniors and team captains
Devon Caruso and Jorgen Viken," Anderson said.
Â
Bryden Brown posted an even-71 to move up three positions to finish in sixth place.
Juan Pablo Quisoboni improved on his second round by 10 strokes to shoot a 70 and finish seventh.
