VOLLEYBALL
After a tough week on the road, LC State Volleyball jumps back into Cascade Conference play this weekend at home against Northwest and Evergreen State. The Warriors are 2-4 heading into the matches.
LC is 5-2 against Northwest dating back to 2013 and split with the Eagles last season. Both matches were decided in four sets, and the Warriors took both 2021 meetings in five sets. The Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the CCC preseason poll, one spot behind LC State. Friday’s match against Northwest is sponsored by the Hells Canyon Grand Hotel and is slated for 6 p.m. LC State will host a canned food drive and those that bring in donations will receive a $2 discount on tickets.
“We learned a lot about ourselves the past two weeks of non-conference and we will continue to find ways to improve in order to capitalize on opportunities,” Head Coach Katie Palmer said. “Moving forward into CCC play, we will learn how to compete against a faceless opponent. No matter who we play it’s going to be a battle and we kick off with a very good Northwest team. Coach Bain does a fantastic job preparing his teams and teaching them how to play clean.”
The Warriors also hold a 5-2 record against Evergreen State dating back to 2014, but dropped both meetings with the Geoducks last season. TESC was picked ninth in the conference preseason poll. Saturday’s 5 p.m. match is sponsored by the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge. Saturday is also Teacher Appreciation Night. Educators that use the code TEACH when purchasing tickets online will receive free admission.
“Evergreen is a CCC team that plays with fire and knows how to put pressure on other people,” Palmer added. “There is no doubt we have one of the toughest conferences in the country. I’m excited to be back in front of our home crowd and I know the Warriors are up to the challenge.”
