Warrior Weekly Preview - Dec. 2-8, 2024

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The No. 14 Warrior women have won six straight games heading into the first Cascade Conference road trip of the season and will take the streak to Seattle to face Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen State (Wash.).

The Warriors (6-0, 1-0) are 9-3 against the Eagles (1-5) since 2003 and have won the last eight meetings. Ellie Sander, who surpassed 1,000 points in her career last week against Walla Walla, led LC State in Kirkland last season with 23 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sitara Byrd added 11 points and nine boards and Mataya Green tallied eight points and eight rebounds.

Northwest’s Ellie De Waard is second in the conference in rebounding (9.2).

LC State is 7-0 against the Geoducks (0-2) since 2006 and took last year’s matchup in Olympia 81-53. The Warriors allowed just six points in the third quarter where they outscored TESC 26-6. Byrd led the contest with 20 points, Lindsey Wilson added 14 and Mataya Green scored 11. Darian Herring grabbed 11 rebounds. 

TESC is second in the CCC in field goal percentage defense (.337), 3-point percentage defense (.254) and blocked shots per game (4.0). Jalyn Sackrider is second in the conference in blocks per game (2.3) and fourth in rebounding (8.3).

The Warriors currently rank third in the NAIA in assists per game (21.2) and seventh in field goal percentage (48.4) and lead the Cascade Conference in scoring defense (53.7), field goal percentage, blocked shots (31), blocked shots per game (5.2), assists (127), assists per game, steals (85), steals per game (14.2) and assist/turnover ratio (1.4).

Darian Herring leads small college women’s basketball (NAIA, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII) and is third in all of women’s college hoops (including NCAA DI) in blocks per game (3.83). She is fourth in the NAIA in total blocks (23) and leads the CCC in assists per game (4.8). Lindsey Wilson is second in the NAIA and leads the CCC in field goal percentage, aided by her 7-for-7 night on Tuesday, with a mark of .792.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 21 LC State Men’s Basketball has won six straight Cascade Conference contests dating back to last season after a 94-59 victory against Walla Walla (Wash.) to start CCC play this season. The Warriors are in Seattle this weekend to take on Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen State (Wash.). 

The Warriors (5-1) are 5-4 against the Eagles (0-4) since 2002 and defeated Northwest 88-69 in Kirkland last season. LC State has won the last three meetings. Alton Hamilton posted an 18-point, 17-rebound double-double in the victory.

LC State is 15-6 against Evergreen State (0-3) dating back to 2002 and have won the last seven meetings. The Warriors defeated TESC 90-67 last season in Olympia. Hamilton scored 11 points with eight rebounds in the contest.

The Geoducks lead the conference in free throw percentage (.833) and Solomon Campbell is tied for the lead in blocked shots per game (1.3).

LC State is second in the CCC in scoring (88.0) and rebounding offense (40.7) and rebounding defense (26.5). The Warriors lead the conference in rebounding margin (14.2). Hamilton leads the conference in both scoring (21.8) and rebounding (11.4) and is in the top 20 in the NAIA in both. MaCarhy Morris is sixth in the CCC in scoring  (15.8) and 3-pointers made (2.2).
