Warrior Weekly Preview - Aug. 26-Sept. 1, 2024

VOLLEYBALL

Warrior Volleyball completed a successful weekend at home with a part of wins against Pacific Union (Calif.) and Walla Walla (Wash.) ahead of a hard-fought contest against Carroll (Mont.). LC State made quick work of the Pioneers in a three-set win before taking down the Wolves in four frames to start Cascade Conference play. The Fighting Saints outlasted the Warriors in the five-set finale of the Hells Canyon Grand Invitational. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Natany Felix Guimaraes earned all-tournament honors.

LC State will head to College Place, Wash., on Thursday for a rematch with Walla Walla for the second CCC match of the season. The contest will conclude the regular-season series with the travel partners. WWU gave the Warriors a challenge in Thursday’s four-set battle. Walla Walla showed a great deal of improvement with one of the best teams the program has ever fielded. LC State is 13-0 against WWU since 2010 and has dropped only two sets in the span.

Walla Walla’s Natalia Jimenez and Sahara Browning led the match in Lewiston with 15 kills each as the Wolves tallied 52 kills to LC State’s 46. WWU also won the digs battle 70-54. The Warriors dealt more aces (8-2) and won the battle at the net with 11 blocks compared to WWU’s eight. Forgach Aguilar led LC with 14 kills and Taylor Boyce added 13. Missy Mortensen assisted on six blocks and Esther Kailiponi dealt three aces.
