Warrior Weekly Preview - Feb. 24-Mar. 2, 2025

WOMEN'S GOLF

Warrior Golf returns to action this week with the No. 25 LC State women in Las Vegas for The Trailblazer, hosted by Oklahoma City University. The Warriors placed in the top five of every fall tournament they played in, including a pair that count toward the Cascade Conference standings.

LC State has Isabella Barquet, Dallis Shockey, Giulia Belfontali, Chase Caruso and Jane Barry as its top five in the tournament. Barquet has been a steady presence at the top of the leaderboard for the Warriors through the fall while Chase Caruso found her stride and played the best golf of her young career in the final tournaments before the break. Natalia Gomez will compete in the tournament as an individual. 

The field in Vegas features 12 teams including No. 14 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and No. 8 Oklahoma City. Lincoln (Mo.), Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.), Arizona Christian, Ottawa (Ariz.), UBC Okanagan, Morningside (Iowa), Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), Benedictine-Mesa (Ariz.) and Hope International (Calif.) will also be in attendance. 

The two-day tournament kicks off on Monday at TPC Summerlin.

BASEBALL

After rain washed away a chance to play on Sunday, No. 7 LC State Baseball (3-5) will wrap up its series at The College of Idaho (11-3) on Monday before heading to No. 24 British Columbia (6-6) next weekend for more Cascade Conference play. 

The Warriors split the first doubleheader with C of I with a 10-0 run-rule win before falling 7-6 in game two. The continuation is tentatively scheduled to start at 1 p.m. PT in Caldwell based on weather.

LC State heads north for a four-game series with the Thunderbirds Feb. 28-Mar. 2. The Warriors went 10-1 against UBC last season and swept the regular season meetings. LC State defeated UBC in the CCC tournament and once in the NAIA Opening Round, presented by Avista, before falling to the Thunderbirds two days later to end the season. 

KOZE will carry the games in Caldwell on Monday but will not be at UBC. All games will be live streamed by the host schools.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

LC State Men’s Basketball (22-6, 17-5) opens postseason play with the quarterfinal round of the Cascade Conference Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, and will host Corban (Ore.) (15-13, 13-9) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. LC State, the third seed in the tournament, defeated sixth-seeded Corban 72-64 on Friday to sweep the regular season series. 

Tickets are on sale now for the contest at lcwarriors.com/tickets. The game will be live streamed and carried on KOZE.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Warrior women (23-5, 17-5) will start postseason action on Wednesday when LC State hosts a quarterfinal matchup of the Cascade Conference Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, in the P1FCU Activity Center. LC State, the third seed in the tournament will face sixth-seeded Bushnell (Ore.) (11-17, 10-12) at 7 p.m. The Warriors ended the regular season with a 68-59 victory over the Beacons on Friday to sweep the regular season series.

TRACK & FIELD

Warrior Track and Field heads to Gainesville, Fla., this week for the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Action in Florida runs Feb. 27-Mar. 1. 

LC State has nine individuals in 10 events and two relays entered into the national meet. A full preview will be available later this week.

MEN'S TENNIS

LC State Men’s Tennis (3-4) hosts of pair of NCAA opponents this week in Division I Eastern Washington (0-9) and Division III Whitman (3-1) in town. The Warriors will compete in individual matches against the Community Colleges of Spokane on Tuesday.

The Warriors were edged by EWU 4-3 in 2023. LC State swept doubles play, with Austin Swing teamed up at No. 3 doubles, to earn the first point of the contest. LC State is 0-4 against EWU since 2010.

LC State is 16-14 against Whitman since 2010 and faced the Blues five times last season. The Warriors won the first three meetings and fell in the final two. Between singles and doubles action in the five matches, Swing earned four wins, Alvaro Camino won five and Nell Rollin earn three. Juan Pablo Naranjo earned a doubles win.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

LC State Women’s Tennis (3-5) will face its first NAIA competition this weekend with a pair of matches against The College of Idaho (1-4) in the Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors will compete in individual matches against the Community Colleges of Spokane on Wednesday.

The Warriors are 17-0 against the Yotes since 2010 and defeated C of I twice last season by scores of 6-1. LC State returns a lot of athletes from the victories last season including Ana Govea, Gwyn Heim, Carisa Liebenberg, April Buckingham, Heidi Moyo, Rayana Shah and Naiara Montero. Assistant coach Bonolo Arroyo Valenzuela (Molefe) also competed in the most recent contest and picked up wins in singles and doubles play.
