WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Jane Barry is second in the field and leads the No. 25 Warrior women after day one of the Walla Walla Invitational on Monday. The sophomore carded a career-low round of 72 to help LC State out to 15-over through 18 holes at Wine Valley Golf Club.
"The women started off the season in a solid way," coach
Zach Anderson said. "Other than some mental mistakes, they really stuck with the game plan. It was exciting to see glimpses of what we can do this year. Jane shot her LC State career-low which included five birdies. Proud of the way she played today. We had solid contributions all around and have work to do tomorrow."
No. 2 British Columbia leads the way in the team standings with an eight-stroke advantage, and No. 21 Oregon Tech is one stroke back of LC State in third.
Barry carded four birdies on the back nine to highlight her even-par day and sits three stroke off the lead through 18 holes.
Junior
Isabella Barquet is tied for fifth after a 3-over, 75 to start her season. She birdied holes 10 and 15 and is six strokes back of the leader, Keira Hou of UBC.
Senior
Dallis Shockey and freshman
Taylor Mire are currently tied for 15
th overall after matching rounds of 6-over, 78. Mire carded a birdy in her collegiate debut. Sophomore
Giulia Belfontali rounded out the LC State squad and sits in a tie for 21
st which puts all five Warriors in the top 25. Belfontali shot 9-over, 81 on the day.
