LC State Earns Four Cascade Conference Weekly Awards

CORVALLIS, Ore. – LC State Athletics had four student-athletes earn Cascade Conference McDonald's Player of the Week honors, presented by Urban Edge Network, announced by the conference office on Monday. John Lustig was voted the CCC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, while Kobe Wessels, Madigan Kelly and Trenton Johnson each earned track and field honors.

JOHN LUSTIG – MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lustig helped lead No. 22 LC State to its first Cascade Conference title in five years with a pair of big-time performances. The senior averaged nine rebounds and 18.5 points per game with a 56.7% mark from the field. His rebounds led to 21 points. Lustig and the Warriors held their opponents to 64.5 points per game. 

This is Lustig’s third weekly honor of the season and fourth of his career.

KOBE WESSELS – MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Wessels ran the third-fastest 1,000m in program history to win the event at the EOU Last Chance meet. His converted time of 2:26.80 ranks No. 8 in the NAIA this season and earned the Lewiston native a spot at the national meet next month. Wessels ran an unconverted time of 2:29.88 on EOU’s shorter track. He also ran in the 3,000m where he finished fifth (8:51.94).

This is Wessels’ second weekly honor of the season and third of his career. He was named the CCC Cross Country Runner of the Week earlier this year.

MADIGAN KELLY – WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Kelly ran a facility record in the 60m hurdles at the EOU Last Chance to better her national standard and win the event. Her time of 8.63 ranks No. 7 in the NAIA this season. The Lewiston native won both the prelim and final, then went on to place fourth in the final of the 60m dash (7.89).

This is Kelly’s second weekly honor of the season and 11th of her career.

TRENTON JOHNSON – MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Johnson set the facility record and LC State record in the triple jump at the EOU Last Chance meet. The mark of 14.57m won the event and ranks 21st this season in the NAIA. He also finished fifth in the long jump (6.39m).

This is the first weekly honor for Johnson this season second of his career.

UP NEXT

LC State Basketball opens postseason play on Wednesday in the Cascade Conference quarterfinal. The top-seeded Warriors host eighth-seeded Northwest (Wash.) in the P1FCU Activity Center at 7 p.m. LC State Track and Field will compete at the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Gainesville, Fla., Mar. 5-7.
