LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College's men's basketball team downed Northwest Indian College again Sunday with an offensive outpouring that led to the 119-94 victory at the Activity Center as five players reached double-figure scoring.
It was the defensive effort that concerned coach
Brandon Rinta.
"Anytime you get a win," he said, "you're happy with it but I thought that our play wasn't quite where it was yesterday. Offensively and defensively we relaxed a little bit. It can be a challenge coming off of playing a team for the second day that you already beat."
The Warriors (2-0) topped the Eagles (0-3) by 67 Saturday evening and sported a 62-37 halftime lead Sunday before NWIC matched their 57 points in the second half and even rallied to within eight early in the second half.
"I think this team is capable of playing at a higher level, defending at a higher level, than they did today," Rinta said of the Warriors. "But, I give credit to Northwest Indian. They were much more comfortable tonight. They were more confident."
Race Martin had 22 points for LCSC and
Jeremy Franklin added 20.
Cory Dollarhide finished with 17,
Cordel Hankerson had 15 and
Daniel Davydov wrapped up the double-figure scoring with 14. The Warriors dominated the boards 38-22 with Franklin the leader with 10.
The Warriors were sharp from the field at 57.3 percent (51.9 from 3-point range) but Rinta will take to team meetings and practices is the yielding of 55.4 percent shooting to the Eagles.
"We have to be better defensively," he said. "The good thing is that we were still able to win. We're going to be able to go back and look at this and correct some of the mistakes."
The Warriors return to action next Sunday, Oct. 29, when they take on Walla Walla University at the Activity Center at 2.
