CALDWELL, Idaho –
Derrick White poured in 22 points and four of his Lewis-Clark State teammates also had double-figure scoring nights as the Warriors improved to 7-1 with Saturday afternoon's 80-68 victory over Multnomah at the Domino's Classic.
After a back-and-forth start that included six lead changes and four ties, the Warriors built a 42-32 halftime lead. They shot 45.5 percent from the field and limited Multnomah to 32.5 percent in the opening 20 minutes. LC was even more effective in the second half with an even 50 percent (14 of 28) from the field, while again keeping Multnomah in check at 33.3 percent.
"We struggled finding a rhythm early in the game," coach
Brandon Rinta said. "It wasn't our best performance but we were able to put together a really good stretch defensively in the second half that allowed us to create some separation."
White connected on eight-of-11 field goal attempts (four-of-five from 3-point range) and added two free throws to go with four rebounds and two assists in leading LC.
Race Martin had 14 points and eight rebounds, with Andre McCowan finishing with 12 points, Damek Mitchell 11 and
Jeremy Franklin 10.
Trea Thomas may have had an off-night shooting but he made up for it with six assists and seven rebounds.
"Derrick carried us in the first half," Rinta said, "then Race was able to get it going some in the second half."
