OLYMPIA, Wash. – It took Lewis-Clark State's men's basketball team a few minutes to find its rhythm but once the Warriors were in sync, they were off and running to a 72-53 non-conference victory over Evergreen State College Wednesday night.
A handful of lead changes marked the first 10 minutes of the game before the Warriors went on a 22-0 run to take full command of the game with a 66.7 percent field goal shooting performance in the first half.
"The last 15 minutes of the first half was the best stretch we have put together this season," coach
Brandon Rinta said. "We were defending, and moving the ball at a high level. For us to have 23 assists on 27 field goals says a lot about how we were looking to create for our teammates."
While every Warrior (8-1) scored, it was
Jeremy Franklin once again leading the way. He finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Cory Dollarhide was the only other LC player to reach double figures with 10, and he matched Franklin on the boards with five.
Race Martin was the rebounding leader with seven as the Warriors commanded a 37-27 edge on the boards. And, as much as the scoring was spread throughout the ranks, so too were the assists. Derek White, Cordel Hankerson and Damek Mitchell all had four each in the final tally of 23.
The Warriors did cool off from their first-half shooting and finished the game at 50 percent from the field, which includes 48 percent from 3-point range.
LC is off until next Thursday when it takes on Montana Western in a Frontier Conference doubleheader with the Warrior women. First tip is 5:30 p.m. with the men playing at 7:30 p.m.
