Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors dominate College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – A true freshman and a senior were the leaders as five Lewis-Clark State players reached double-figures as the Warriors upended College of Idaho 84-48 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday evening.

In a game that never was close, Brittany Tackett and Abbie Johnson had 14 points each with Jossilyn Blackman adding 13 points, and Hailey Turner and Peyton Souvenir with 11 each.  Jansen Edmiston dished out eight assists and Souvenir contributed five as LC totaled 22. They were equally dominant on the boards (46-30) with Tackett and Lauren Johnson with six each as every player had at least one rebound.

Coach Brian Orr wanted to see a more intense defense Saturday evening – and he did. While the Warriors were rolling off 12 successive points, the Coyotes were struggling. They didn't score until more than five minutes had elapsed in the game and LC was leading 12-0.

"We wanted to be a lot more aggressive tonight on the defensive end," Orr said, "so we came out pressing hoping it would fuel our offense."

The plan worked. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors (7-2) were leading 18-7 – an advantage they expanded to 45-20 at the half. During those opening quarters, they made nearly two-thirds of their shots. The Warriors finished the game shooting 53.2 percent from the field and 36 percent from 3-point range, while the Coyotes to hit just 27.4 percent for the game (24 from 3-point range).

"Our defense was pretty solid all game," Orr said.

While Orr had praise for the entire lineup, it was Lauren Johnson setting the stage early that led to the Warriors' ability to dominate.

"Lauren Johnson got us going tonight," he said, "pushing the tempo, hitting shots and rebounding the ball."

The Warriors return to the Activity Center Thursday night to open Frontier Conference action against Montana Western. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
