LEWISTON, Idaho –
Jansen Edmiston led seven players in double figures Sunday afternoon as Lewis-Clark State's women's basketball team romped past Salish-Kootenai 112-50 – the Warriors' highest point total this season and third highest in school history.
"Overall, we played well today," said coach
Brian Orr, whose team improved to 10-2 overall with Monday night's rematch with SKC their last game before the holiday break. "We did exactly what we needed to do."
The Warriors turned their focus inward against SKC, a basketball program in its formative years.
"Anytime you have a lead like that, staying focused isn't always an easy thing to do," he said. "We focused on our execution, attention to detail."
The Warriors dominated thoroughly throughout with leads of 31-9 at the end of the first quarter, 58-22 at halftime, and 84-34 at the end of three quarters. Evidence of their intention to stay focused and execute was the Warriors' ability to up their shooting percentage from 47.1 in the first half to 57.6 for the second for a game average of 51.2.
In addition to Edmiston leading the way with 17 points,
Brittany Tackett had 14, Peyton Souvenir had 13,
Jossilyn Blackman had 12,
Hailey Turner and Kiara Burlage had 11 each, and Delaney Henery had 10. The story was the same on the boards as LC dominated 54-25. Turner had 10, Tackett had eight and Abbie Johnson had seven.
Other numbers that pleased Orr were just nine turnovers and 25 assists. LC also had 13 steals. For Orr, it was the how, not the total, that most pleased him.
"All of those came out of the half-court," said Orr, who opted not to press. "We wanted to work on our half-court defense as much as we could. … I'm really happy with where we're at right now as a team."
