LEWISTON, Idaho – Numbers were big all around Monday night at the Activity Center as the Lewis-Clark State men's basketball team rolled past Salish-Kootenai 122-56 for its second 100-plus game in a row.
And it all started with a night that the Warriors converted 12 of their first 13 field-goal attempts en route to winning their seventh in a row and improving to 13-1 with the holiday break up next.
"To start off hitting 12 out of 13 … ," coach
Brandon Rinta said. "It would be nice to start every game like that."
It also helped the Warriors settle any concerns their coach might have had about not being focused and intense after winning by 56 over the Bison Sunday afternoon.
"It was a challenging one to come back after last night and for our guys to have the same focus and energy," Rinta said. "I thought they did a great job with that. There were a few more lapses defensively on our part but still, I can't complain with what we were able to do defensively."
Included in the lopsided numbers were out-rebounding the Bison 47-25, forcing 25 turnovers and allowing a shooting percentage of just 34.8.
That's the defensive story. In stark contrast on offense, the Warriors shot 64.6 percent from the field with eight players reaching double figures.
Jeremy Franklin had 19 to lead the way with
Race Martin and
Trea Thomas each adding 16, Trystan Bradley finishing with 14, Damek Mitchell and Darius Alexander with 13 each, and Andre McCowan with 12.
Additionally, 34 assists – for the second night in a row, were handed out. Thomas' seven were a Warrior best.
"I was impressed with our guys continuing to share the basketball," Rinta said. "That's what we want to see."
The Warriors are off until Dec. 30 when they play host to the Spokane Club – a team of former college players from the Inland Northwest.
