LEWISTON, Idaho – The outcome might have been a foregone conclusion before the game started but that didn't mean coach
Brian Orr didn't want to see execution and precision in his Lewis-Clark State Warriors.
They delivered in a 102-35 non-conference women's basketball victory over Salish-Kootenai for their second 100-plus point game in a row and their seventh successive victory. Up next is a 16-day break from competition within which the Warriors will have nine days away from the court.
"It was really hard because you're up by so many points," said Orr, in explaining what appeared to be a lack of intensity in a first half the Warriors led by 49-16, "but the focus has to be on what we need to do to be more successful. In the third quarter, I thought we were really efficient with the ball."
The Warriors (11-2 overall) dominated in every phase and again had multiple players in double figures – with
Jansen Edmiston setting the pace with 19. Not only did she hit six-of-nine field goal attempts and was six-of-seven from the line, she had eight assists and five steals.
Edmiston was backed by Delaney Henery and
Brittany Tackett with 12 each, Cali Moscrip with 11, and
Hailey Turner and Abbie Johnson with 10 apiece. Peyton Souvenir had 10 assists – the best by a Frontier Conference player so far this season. Adding to the balance were nine rebounds each by Henery and Kiara Burlage as LC dominated the boards 54-31.
A key second-half number was the distribution of 18 assists compared to just seven in the first two quarters. The Warriors also tallied 20 steals and had just nine turnovers of their own.
"When you have less than 10 turnovers and you play fast, it's always a good thing," Orr said "The whole game was pretty solid."
