Hamann and McAree pitch Warriors past C of I 8-1

CALDWELL, Idaho – Senior right-hander Kevin Hamann and reliever Henry McAree combined on a seven-hitter to help the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team defeat the College of Idaho 8-1 in NAIA Far West play at Wolfe Field on Friday.

Hamann improved to 2-0 on the season by going seven strong innings. He allowed six hits and one unearned run. He also struck out five and walked one.

McAree entered at the start of the eighth with LCSC holding a 4-1 advantage. He retired six of the seven batters he faced and allowed one hit with three strikeouts. He was credited with his first save of the season.

Hamann and McAree helped the Warriors improve to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while College of Idaho fell to 13-13 overall and 6-3 in league play.

LCSC broke a scoreless tie in the third as Cooper Goldby singled and courtesy runner Chase Hafer stole second. Hafer eventually scored on an Emilio Alcantar ground out. Seaver Whalen doubled with two outs and scored on a J.J. Robinson single to extend the lead to 2-0.

Coyotes starter Zach Draper put up zeroes until the seventh when LCSC scored two more runs for a 4-0 lead. Logan Griffin started the rally with a double and scored on a double by Gunnar Buhner. Goldby later grounded out to score Buhner.

C of I picked up its only run in the bottom of the seventh. Hunter Hanson doubled and scored when L-C center-fielder Raymond Pedrina misplayed a hop on   single by Dalton Ridgway.  However, Hamann got a ground out and fly out to end the threat.

The Warriors put the game out of reach in the ninth with four runs as Alcantar and Micah Brown had RBI singles, and Evan Douglas singled home two with two outs to cap the scoring.
