Warrior women need to play their way

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College's women's basketball team returns to the Activity Center this week for two Frontier Conference games – and their primary focus will be on what they do best as Warriors.

LCSC (11-4, 2-2) plays host to Montana State-Northern Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and University of Providence Saturday at 2 p.m. Providence (12-3 overall and 3-1 in league play) is second in the conference, while MSU-Northern is seventh at 9-7, 1-3 – a deceptive record Warrior coach Brian Orr said.

"They're the type of team that, every game, they're going to be in it because they play a tempo that they control," Orr said. "It's really hard to speed them up. They execute so well."

The Skylights sheer volume of plays is part of the reason for Orr's concern. The other is the short turnaround from last week's two-loss road venture.

"Honestly," Orr said, "it's a hard thing for us.

"The focus has to be on what we do well. Last weekend, we didn't attack. We're really good in transition. We have to bring it out. We have to do our thing and attack them."

The same is true of Saturday's game against Providence where they have the added challenge of corralling league-leading Stephanie McDonagh (18.87 ppg).

"That team is truly one of the most talented in the league," Orr said. "We have to be ready to defend all of their action. They run a lot of good stuff.

"Again, with us we try to stay with concepts more than specifics because of who we are. Then focus on what we should be doing offensively."
