LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State Warriors dominated the court in their second-straight win over Yellowstone Christian College, running away with a 98-45 victory over the Centurions. Six different Warriors scored double-digit points, with
Kiara Burlage leading the way with 16.
Abbie Johnson tallied an impressive seven steals in the contest and
Cali Moscrip dished out a career-best eight assists. It marked the first time in LCSC history that every player in the game for the Warriors made a three-pointer, with the Warriors totaling nine on the day to set a new single-game record.
"It looked like a completely different team that showed up this morning than the one that played yesterday afternoon," Head Coach
Brian Orr said.
The Warriors opened up with a quick eight points. After
Jossilyn Blackman found the basket to get the scoring started,
Hailey Turner and
Jamie Nielson hit back-to-back threes less than a minute apart to give LC an 8-0 advantage at the 8:45 mark. A three-point shot from Burlage at 4:28 stretched the lead to nine at 15-6 before she struck for consecutive baskets just 20 seconds apart to bring the score to 23-10 with 1:20 to play in the quarter. A three-pointer from Nielson ended the opening ten minutes at 27-10.
Defense was top-notch throughout the game, but most impressively in the second quarter. The Warriors held the Centurions to just four points in the frame. Johnson hit a three and knocked down two free throws to widen the gap to 31-10 two minutes into the quarter. Blackman and
Emily Banks hit back-to-back threes a minute apart and LC led 39-12 with 5:20 to play. The offense continued to charge on and the Warriors took a 56-14 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was much of the same with the Warriors outscoring Yellowstone Christian 24-13. A basket from Turner sparked a seven-point run to give LCSC a 78-25 lead with two to play. LC headed into the final quarter with an 80-27 advantage.
The largest lead of the game for the Warriors came with just over two to go in the game.
Abby Farmer dished an assist to Burlage to put LC up by 60 at 96-36. The game ended with a final of 98-45.
A lot of great individual performances came together to produce a well-played game on both offense and defense. As mentioned, six different Warriors hit double-digit points and every player scored at least seven. Ever play also collected at least one rebound and had an assist.
Burlage led the way in scoring with 16 points, and Blackman was not far behind with 14. Each pulled down eight boards. Johnson dropped 13 points to go with a career-high seven steals. Moscrip one-upped her career-high in assists from yesterday, dishing out eight today.
As a team, the Warriors shot 55.2 percent (37-67) including a 9-14 effort in the first quarter. They totaled 44 rebounds, 17 steals and seven blocks.
"It was nice to see us shoot the ball so well and we really passed the ball so much better, which was why we got so many open looks. But the biggest difference was our defensive pressure on the ball. We extended our defense this morning which really helped our energy level and unlike yesterday we turned deflections into steals," Orr said. "We have a lot to work on but this was definitely a very encouraging sign of our future potential."
The Warriors have a small break before returning to the court when they host Whitman College on Nov. 1 in the Activity Center.
