Blackman and Burlage Drop Career-Highs in Seventh-Straight Win

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Jossilyn Blackman continued a dominant senior campaign in Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball's 95-84 win over Corban on Saturday night. Blackman set a new career-high in scoring with 22 points in the contest and notched her seventh-straight game with double-digit points in the Warrior's seventh-straight win.

Kiara Burlage also stepped up big with a 14-point third quarter along with four in the fourth for a new career-high of 18.

"We had several players step up at key moments but Kiara's second half performance really stood out and gave us the momentum to finish the deal," Head Coach Brian Orr said.

The Warriors came out strong in the opening quarter, outscoring Corban 30-17. Abbie Johnson led with eight points in the period, and started the scoring with a tipin 15 seconds into the action. Hailey Turner hit a three at the 6:17 mark to spark a 9-0 run that had LC leading 15-4 just over a minute later. Abby Farmer hit a three in the final minute of the quarter and the Warriors led 30-17 at its close.

Blackman hit a jumper to jump start the scoring in the second period before draining two free throws to put LC up 34-23 at the 5:52 mark. With 4:27 remaining in the half, Peyton Souvenir found Blackman for a layup to begin a seven-point rally. Turner used an assist from Jamie Nieson to cap the run with a jumper at 2:49 to give LC a 43-25 advantage. A three-pointer from Nielson had the Warriors ahead 46-28 at halftime.

A 8-0 run at the end of the third quarter solidified the Warriors' lead. Kiara Burlage hit a triple with 2:31 in the frame to begin the rally, and Hannah Burland wrapped it up a minute later with a three of her own to push the advantage to 69-48. The Warriors carried a 70-51 lead heading into the final quarter.

Though Corban outscored LC in the fourth quarter, the Warriors had built up enough of a lead to withstand the Corban's attempt at a comeback. Souvenir and Johnson both went to the line in the final minute of the contest and drained both of their free throws to close the quarter with LC in front 95-84.

LC was able to defend against a very strong 37-point performance from Corban's Jordan Woodvine.

"It wasn't as pretty as last night, but we were able to make enough plays to pull out a hard fought win," Orr said. "We overcame a big time performance from Woodvine. She is so strong off the dribble and when she is hitting threes she's almost impossible to stop. We had a solid lead but Corban kept fighting back."

The Warriors were 34-for-60 (56.7 percent) from the floor and 10-for-22 from three-point-range.

"They were able to take away our fastbreak but our half court offense was effective and we shot it well again tonight."

As mentioned, Blackman led with 22 points for a new career-high. Burlage also put up career numbers with 18 points. Turner added 14 and Johnson dropped 12. Blackman led the team in rebounds with seven and Souvenir dished out seven assists. Johnson tallied four steals on the night.

The Warriors take on No. 12 (NAIA DII) Southern Oregon on Friday in Ashland at 1 p.m. and finish the weekend with a matchup against Oregon Tech on Saturday.
