LEWISTON, Idaho –
Dana Abe poured in 21 points off 72.7 percent shooting to lead 10
th-ranked Lewis-Clark State College to its Sunday afternoon 87-44 victory over the University of Concordia-Edmonton at the LC Activity Center.
For Warrior coaches and staff, it was good to notch another victory despite an offensive showing that wasn't up to the standards they've set for themselves.
"They've set the bar extremely high for themselves," said assistant coach
Leif Karlberg after the Warriors missed the 100-point mark for the first time in seven games. "When you set the bar so high, it can become evident when you're not firing on all cylinders.
"Some games are going to be ugly but it's better to win the ugly ones than lose the ugly ones."
While the offense might not have been at its best, defensively LC was. Concordia shot just 21.5 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers. In contrast, the Warriors shot 45.2 percent, dominated the boards 53-40, and had 15 turnovers.
"We didn't score at the level we have been lately," Karlberg said. "It may not have looked pretty at moments tonight but, at the end of the day, there were a lot of good things that happened."
A couple would be scoring and rebounding contributions from every player as well as a 57-point effort from players off the bench.
In addition to Abe's game-leading total,
Derrick White had 11 points with
Damek Mitchell finishing with nine. Three Warriors – Mitchell,
Race Martin and
Conner Moffatt, had seven rebounds each, with Mitchell also the assist leader with five.
Lucas Turchet had 13 points to lead the Thunder as the Warriors were able to corral Concordia's 6-8 center Ronald Bacon Jr. and limit him to 12 points – less than half of his Saturday total of 28.
The Warriors improved to 13-1 with the victory, while Concordia dropped to 10-4. LC returns to Frontier Conference action on the road next weekend at Providence Friday and Montana State-Northern Saturday.
