LEWISTON, Idaho - Lewis-Clark State swept a doubleheader from Concordia Saturday, coming from behind late in both games, to run their early season record to 5-0.
The Warriors used back-to-back three-run innings in the opener to erase a 7-3 deficit en route to a 10-7 decision. In the second game, they scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 victory. Concordia, opening its season with this series, dropped to 0-3 on the year.
In game one, The Warriors trailed 7-4 entering the seventh inning, but
Riley Way's two-run single evened the game. The Warriors put three more runs across the plate in the eighth inning thanks to a walk, and four hit batsmen. Lewiston native
Tyler Charlo shut down the Cavaliers, pitching the last three innings, too pick up his first victory as a Warrior. He allowed just three hits, and one unearned run in his initial appearance.
Tyler McDowell led LC with three RBI, collecting two one-run singles, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. The Cavaliers outhit LC 13-7, but committed seven errors in the game that led to seven unearned runs.
Tyler Burch started the game for the Warriors, going five innings, and allowing three runs on eight hits.
In the second game, LC scored single runs in the second and third innings, but trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth.
Makana Victorine led off the inning with a single, and pinch hitter
Matt Thompson followed with a walk. After a pitching change,
Raymond Pedrina laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. LC pulled within one at 4-3 on a passed ball, and loaded the bases again via an intentional walk.
Kasey Bailey then tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right. Catcher
Cory Voss was then hit by another pitch, to load the bases. Concordia then induced an infield fly from
Tyler McDowell. With two outs, Tom Lampkin Jr., then walked on four pitches, and Pedrina trotted home with the winning run.
Raleigh Pigg earned the victory, going the final two innings, striking out four, and not allowing a run. Bailey had two hits for LC, again outhit by the Cavaliers, 9-8. Cavalier pitchers accounted for eight hit batters in the doubleheader, and issued eight walks.
The teams meet Sunday at noon to finish up the four-game series.
