Antelope Valley Sends Warriors Home With 18-9 loss

LANCASTER, Calif. – The Lewis-Clark State baseball team completed its first road trip of the season with an 18-9 loss to Antelope Valley Sunday.

The loss left the Warriors with split of the four-game series after the Warriors won the first two.  The Warriors drop to 8-2 on the season, while the Pioneers improved to 9-6.

Antelope Valley jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings, then added a solo run in the fourth, and six in the fifth to take a 13-1 lead.

Antelope Valley knocked out LC starting pitcher Raleigh Pigg after just six batters, as it scored on two RBI singles and a fielder's choice.  The Pioneers scored three runs in the second inning off LC reliever Joseph Riley on RBI singles.

Antelope Valley used extra-base hits to do the damage in the fifth with three-run double, a two-run triple and an RBI triple. The Pioneers added a solo run in the seventh.

Cory Voss' solo home run in the second inning was the only offense for LC until the seventh inning when Tyler McDowell's RBI single brought home LC's second run.

LC's bats woke up in the eighth inning. The Warrior scored seven runs on two Pioneer fielding errors, Kasey Bailey's RBI single, and on two-run singles from McDowell's and Joey Parente to make it 14-9.

Antelope Valley answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning on a Warrior error, sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

Voss finished the game with three hits, including a double.  McDowell had two hits and three RBI.

Six Warrior pitchers issued eight walks in the game, and four LC errors accounted for seven unearned runs. The Pioneers had 17 hits, and LCSC had 13.

Pigg (0-1) was starting his first game at LC. Antelope Valley starter Clayton Rabiej (3-0) went six innings and allowed just five hits. He had seven strikeouts and allowed one earned run.

The Warriors, ranked No.1 in the NAIA preseason poll, will be back home next Friday-Sunday for a three-game series against Western Oregon. Friday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
