LEWISTON, Idaho – After scoring 17 runs in the opener Saturday, the Lewis-Clark State Warriors added 16 more, in just seven innings, sweeping the College of Idaho in a NAIA West Conference doubleheader at Harris field. LC is now 15-5 overall, 5-1 in league, while the Coyotes dropped to 9-15, and 2-6.
Kasey Bailey provided the fireworks in the opening game, hitting three-run home runs in the fifth and seventh inning for LC, and added three more RBI in game two, finishing the day with nine total.
His first home run in game one was part of a Warrior 10-run inning fifth inning.
Cory Voss followed Bailey's homer with a solo shot, and later in the inning, Tom Lampkin Jr. added another three-run shot, his second home run of the game. Lampkin led off the second inning with a homer.
College of Idaho led briefly, 2-0, in the third inning, and 4-3, before the Warrior eruption in the fifth gave LC a 13-3 lead. Bailey's second shot gave LC a 17-3 lead after seven innings, but the 10-run mercy rule was not invoked, and the Coyotes added five runs in the ninth to finish out the scoring.
Joey Parente went 4-4 in the opener, with two doubles. Lampkin Jr. had five RBI.
The second game was all Warriors, as they recorded their second shutout of the season.
Cory Voss's second home run of the day, a two-run blast, gave LC a quick 2-0 first-inning lead. The Warriors added seven more runs in the third inning. Bailey's three-run double, and
Matt Thompson's two-run triple put LC up 9-2.
Max Draijer entered the home run derby with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and Thompson added a two-run double, as the Warriors plated six more runs.
Tyler McDowell ended the scoring for LC with a solo shot in the seventh.
The mercy ruled was invoked after the Coyotes batted in the seventh. LC collected 32 hits in the doubleheader.
Brady Tedesco started his first game on the mound for the Warriors in the opener, and went four innings, allowing four runs and six hits.
Raleigh Pigg earned his second victory of the season, relieving Tedesco, and pitching two innings. Pigg allowed just one hit, and no runs.
Matt Becker, also making his first Warrior start, went five innings in the second contest. Becker earned his second win of the season, striking out four, allowing three hits, and did not walk a batter.
Mason Verge finished the game, facing the minimum number of batters over two innings.
The teams will meet Sunday in another conference doubleheader, starting at noon.
