The two teams, opening a four-game series at Harris Field, will play a doubleheader Wednesday, starting at 1 p.m. The Grizzlies, ranked second in the latest NAIA poll, fell to 17-3, while LC moved to 12-3. The Warriors, ranked sixth in the poll, had to come from behind twice in the contest.
Georgia Gwinnett's Alex Garland's first-inning two-run home run gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. LC came back with six runs in the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Warriors sent 11 men to the plate in the inning. Trailing 2-1, LC's
Raymond Pedrina hit a grand slam to left field, and after a
Kasey Bailey triple, Voss doubled, to give LC the 6-2 margin.
Gerogia Gwinnett pulled to within 6-5, scoring three runs in the fourth inning, but LC added single runs in the fifth and sixth on RBI singles by Tom Lampkin Jr. and
Tyler McDowell. Four Warrior errors, and Marcus McCorkle's RBI single brought in four runs for the Grizzlies, to give GGC a 9-8 lead.
Raymond Pedrina's second home run of the game, a solo shot in the eighth inning tied the game , and both teams went scoreless until the game-ending sac fly.
Matt Becker picked up the victory in relief. He went the final four innings, allowed four runs, but struck out the last four Grizzlies he faced.
Justin Hammergren started for LC, and went six innings, giving up five runs.
Pedrina led LC with five RBI, and Voss had three hits, including a double, to go along with his game winner.
