Warriors fall in extra innings

KEIZER, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State was defeated by Corban University Friday 5-4 in 10 innings, in an NAIA West conference game on the road,   The LC Warriors drop to 34-10 overall and 23-6 in league, while the third-place Corban Warriors improved to 27-21, 16-13 in league.

Lewis-Clark State took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Cory Voss' RBI single, and Kyle Callahan's sacrifice fly.  Callahan would add his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot in the eighth, to give LC a 3-1.

LC then committed three errors in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Corban to score three unearned runs, and take a 4-3 lead.  Lewis-Clark State tied the game in the ninth on Cory Voss' RBI single through the left side of the infield, scored Raymond Pedrina from second.

LC survived the bottom of the ninth when Corban's Ethan Bragg was thrown out at the plate, trying to score on a throwing error, to end the inning, and send the game into extra innings.  Lewis-Clark State loaded the bases in the tenth, but failed to score.

LC reliever Gage Burland (0-3) walked the Corban leadoff batter in the bottom of the inning, and then surrendered a walk-off double down the right field line to Daniel Freiburger.

Voss went 4-5 with two RBI to lead LC, and Callahan finished 3-4.  Lalo Porras started and went 5 2/3 innings on the mound for LC, striking out a season-high 11, before being relieved by Joseph Riley.  Burland took the loss, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.

The teams continue their four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday.  Game time for the opener was moved up to a 9 AM start, anticipating weather conditions.
