VANCOUVER, B.C. – One swing of the bat made the difference Sunday in Lewis-Clark State's game against British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. Unfortunately the swing was by a Thunderbird batter, and UBC defeated LC to split the four-game NAIA West weekend series.
Making his first start of the year on the mound for the Warriors,
Anthony Toribio was impressive in his six inning stint, allowing just two hits. But, one of the hits was by British Columbia catcher Anthony Cusati, who hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, erasing LC's 1-0 lead, and UBC held on for a 2-1 victory.
Toribio recorded six strikeouts and walked three before giving way to relievers
Efrain Del Rio and
Gage Burland, who held UBC scoreless.
The Warrior's
Kyle Callahan homered in his second consecutive game, to give LC a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Callahan's fifth home run of the season, however, was just one of three Warrior hits in the game. LC struck out a season-high 15 times against UBC pitchers, who issued just one walk.
LC (26-7, 16-3) travels to Caldwell, Idaho Friday to start a four-game league series with the College of Idaho.
