10-21-19

LEWISTON, Idaho —The Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball team opened up its season against Yellowstone Christian College on Monday. The Warriors used a big second half to beat the Centurions by a final score of 94-47.

With the Warriors down 10-9, and trailing for the second of only two times in the contest, a basket from
Travis Yenor put LCSC on top 11-10 and they never fell behind again.

After a slow start and a timeout by YCC, the score read 17-12 in favor of the Warriors. LC used the short break to regroup and rattled home a couple of buckets, combined with great defense, to give themselves a 10-point lead halfway through the opening 20 minutes.

With 5:36 left in the first half, the Centurions were able to cut the deficit down to four (27-23), but the Warriors defended their home court and built up a 12-point lead going into the second half.

In the second half, starting with a 3-point shot from
Josiah Westbrook, the Warriors came out firing on all cylinders and never looked back. Only a minute into the half, YCC cut the lead to 13, but never came any closer.

"We strung together some stops, strung together some inside-out offensive plays and everyone contributed," coach
Austin Johnson said.

Trystan Bradley had a career-high eight rebounds. The Warriors played hard, played fast and played lock-down defense. The LC State bench outscored Yellowstone Christian 42-3.

Westbrook (16), Yenor (13), Jaxon Hughes (11),
Jake Albright (10) and
Daylon Potts (10) led the Warriors in scoring to go along with the teams' 12 made 3-point shots. All Warriors except for one contributed to the scoring. As a team, the Warriors shot 55 percent from the field, 50 percent from the 3-point line (12-24), and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

"We're going to have to find different ways to win this year," coach Johnson said.

The Warriors have a short week of preparation ahead of them as they turn around and play this Friday, Oct 25 against Northwest Christian at 7 p.m.
