LEWISTON, Idaho – Continued progress within the system propelled the Lewis-Clark State volleyball team a 25-21, 25-13, 25-17 Frontier Conference victory over Carroll College before an enthusiastic homecoming crowd at the Activity Center Friday night.

"We've been fighting to be this team all year," coach
Shaun Pohlman said after the Warriors improved to 12-7, 3-2. "What the fans saw was the team we could be for the rest of the year."

That team was one that played with confidence and composure – even in the back-and-forth duel that marked the first set. In the opener, the Warriors hit just .194 with 11 kills but the Saints managed just .061, although they had 10 kills.

"Our team responded well," Pohlman said. "We were down a few times. They kept their heads;  they kept their cool."

The Warriors started to hit their stride in the second with a .276 hitting effort with another 10 kills before closing the match with a .324 third set that included 18 kills. For the match, LC notched a .266 attack percentage to just .061 for Carroll.

LC's success, Pohlman said, was a reflection of the composure he is seeing from serve receive to score.

"You'll always see it in serve and pass," he said, noting the Warriors 12 service aces to just two for Carroll. "When you get a good pass, that just makes everything else better."

Carli Berntson led the Warriors with 10 kills – off a .529 hitting percentage, and
Tori Edwards finished with nine.
Josilyn Remick had 16 assists with
Jess Ruffing adding another 15.
Gionni Brown's four serves aces were a team high with Remick nailing three.

The Warriors are at home again Saturday for a 2 p.m. conference match against No. 16 Montana Tech.
