VALLEJO, Calif. – Lewis-Clark State College's women's basketball team didn't waste any time in taking control of its non-conference game at Cal Maritime Friday evening and notching the 899
th victory in program history.
The Warriors led by 17 at the end of the first period, by 23 at the half and by 40 after three quarters en route to an 85-42 victory. Offensive balance was one key for LC, which was led by
Jamie Nielson and
Kiara Burlage with 15 points each, and 14 from
Abbie Johnson. Accuracy from the field was another as the Warriors shot 47.7 percent from the field while limiting the host Keelhaulers to just 24.1 percent.
"Our transition offense was great tonight," coach
Brian Orr said. "We kicked the ball ahead and found the open player running the floor."
Open players were many as 10 players scored with
Abby Farmer the assist leader with six and
Peyton Souvenir handing out five as the Warriors totaled 18. Souvenir also had three steals as LC scored 17 points off turnovers.
Rebounding was almost as spread out as scoring with Souvenir grabbing seven, and Johnson and
Jansen Edmiston each with six as every Warrior had at least one rebound as LC dominated 51-28.
"Defensively we made them take tough shots," Orr said. "We limited them to one shot and rebounded the ball extremely well.
"We have to carry our energy over to these next two games because Menlo (Saturday 6 p.m.) and Notre Dame de Namur (Monday 5 p.m.) are both good teams."
