No. 23 Warriors Upend Walla Walla with 3-Point Party

LEWISTON, Idaho – Josiah Westbrook hit four 3-pointers in the first five minutes to set the pace for the No. 23 Lewis-Clark State Basketball team in its Saturday night contest against the Walla Walla Wolves. The 103-62 victory marks the 100th time LC State Men's Basketball has scored at least 100 points, and was the second-straight game that every Warrior scored.

"We've shot it pretty well," coach Austin Johnson said. "We can shoot and we can shoot it with different guys. We have a very unselfish team and I think that stands out when we play. They like seeing their teammate have success and that is really important."

Westbrook provided 12 of the first 21 points, and Damek Mitchell added a 3 at 13:23 to put the lead at 21-13. A layup by Jake Albright and a pair of 3-pointers by Jaxon Hughes and Mitchell had the Warriors leading 29-21 after the first 10 minutes.

"We know that Josiah is pretty capable of being a pretty special offensive player and he showed glimpse of that last year," Johnson said. "Tonight it was really encouraging to see his teammates find him. He took really great shots."

Khalil Stevenson grabbed his own rebound and put it back to give LC a 10-point lead at 33-23 at the 8:30 mark. Travis Yenor put up back-to-back baskets under the six minute mark as the Warriors continued to find the basket in the first half.  Westbrook continued to drain 3s with his fifth of the night at 4:34, bringing the lead to 45-27. Mitchell added another less than a minute later. Dedrick Pakootas joined the 3-point parade at 1:34 and the Warriors led 62-32 at the half.

LC State hit 11 3s in the first half alone, led by Westbrook (5-for-5).

The Warriors added on 19 points in the first nine minutes of the second half, starting with a pair of buckets from Trystan Bradley.  Travis Yenor added a pair as well, and Conner Moffatt hit a jumper and a 3 in a minute span. Midway through the half, LC led 84-48.

Mitchell hit the Warriors' 14th 3-pointer of the game just under 9:00 to make it 87-48, and a free throw by Bradley grew the advantage to 90-48 with seven minutes to play.

The Warriors pushed the lead to 42 (90-48) with a field goal by Bradley at 6:35, and foul shots by the Lewiston native made it 94-52 at 5:15.

Bob Boyd pushed the Warriors over 100 points with a jumper with 55 second on the clock. LC State cruised through the final five minutes to a 103-62 victory.

Westbrook led the Warriors with 15 points. Yenor was just behind him with 14, Bradley and Hughes each chipped in 13 and Mitchell had 12. Daylon Potts led the defense with 10 rebounds and Yenor and Bradley each had six.

As a team, the Warriors hit 14 3-pointers (14-for-33). They hit 28 field goals with a 59 percent field goal percentage and drained 13-of-19 free throws. The Warriors dished out 23 assists.

The last home game of 2019 for Warrior Men's Basketball is next Friday, Nov. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Activity Center when they host Portland Bible College.
