LEWISTON, Idaho – Head coach Austin Johnson announced the signing of the first addition to the 2020-21 roster in Churchill High School's Silas Bennion. The 6-1 point guard from Eugene, Ore. will join the No. 13 Lewis-Clark State Warriors next season.

Bennion was voted the 2019 Midwestern League Player of the Year and led the Lancers to a conference championship and No. 1 ranking in Oregon State 5A.

"We're thrilled to add Silas Bennion to our program," Johnson said. "He is exactly what we were looking for as a player and person for our 2020 recruiting class. He is a joy to be around and makes everyone around him better. We have high expectations for him as he has been well coached at Churchill by Coach Bokn. His competitive spirit, IQ and work ethic will allow him to develop into a major part of our foundation during his time at LC. I can't wait to have him on campus."

The team placed second at State after falling in the championship game, and Bennion was named Second-Team All-State. He averaged 15 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals per game while shooting 83 percent from the free throw line and 47 percent from 3. Bennion currently ranks 14th all-time in scoring at Churchill HS with 792 points and is on track to break into the top five during his senior season. In his sophomore season, Bennion helped the Lancers to a third-place finish at State.
"We are super excited for Silas to commit to LC State," Churchill High School coach Kelly Bokn said. "He is a dynamic guard that will have a real impact on the basketball program and student body."

"I chose LC because while I was on my visit I liked the energy and camaraderie of the team," Bennion explained. "The guys were fun to be around and very welcoming. The coaching staff holds themselves and the players to a certain standard, which creates a culture that I feel I fit in great with. I'm excited to grow as a person and player, and I can't wait for a new experience and to win a lot of basketball games!

"I would like to thank all my coaches that have taught me how to play the game the right way," Bennion said. "I'd also like to thank my amazing parents who gave me their time, support, energy and love. Go Warriors!"
