OLYMPIA, Wash. – Every Lewis-Clark State player scored and all but two had a rebound as the Warriors rolled past Evergreen State College 84-56 Monday night in a non-conference men's basketball game.
Josiah Westbrook led the Warriors (10-1) with 16 points with
Damek Mitchell contributing 14 and
Travis Yenor adding 11 as LC used a 40-21 second-half advantage to vanquish the Geoducks, who trailed by just nine at the half.
"Tonight was another good team road win for our guys," said coach
Austin Johnson, whose team has been on the road for 10 of 14 games so far this season. "We settled down in the second half and defended at a level we are capable of and that allowed us to create some breathing room with baskets in transition."
The Geoducks cut LC's halftime lead to five, 46-41, with 17:41 to play before the Warriors put together a 12-0 run over the next 4½ minutes to take control. It was a classic team effort that led to the run with Yenor and
Khalil Stevenson scoring four points each, and Mitchell and
Jake Albright dropping in a field goal apiece.
As much as their offense came to life, the Warriors defense also made an impact. Evergreen made just nine of 33 field goal attempts, which includes one of 12 from 3-point range, to see its shooting percentage drop to 27.27 for the half and 33.8 for the game.
During the same timeframe, LC made 17 of 35 field goals and five of 15 3-point attempts. The Warriors finished the night 51.6 percent from the field (46.7 from 3-point range).
The Warriors also thoroughly dominated the boards, 48-27, with 16 of their points coming of second-chance efforts. Yenor was LC's rebound leader with 12.
LC doesn't return to the court until it takes on Northwest Indian College in a Jan. 4-5 weekend home stand.
"This break will be much needed and well deserved," Johnson said.
