Martin Leads Warriors in Comeback over Tech

BUTTE, Mont. - The No. 13 Lewis-Clark State men's basketball team faced a deficit at the half on Saturday night, but were able to overcome Montana Tech to earn their 22nd win of the season. Race Martin had a big night, leading all scorers with 19 points in the contest.

"I am super proud of every guy on our team," coach Austin Johnson said. "It was a tough road trip playing on back-to-back nights. I was extremely impressed with the guys and their commitment to defending and playing for each other."

The Orediggers struck first, scoring the first six points of the contest. Trystan Bradley got LC on the board with a pair of foul shots. Martin hit a 3 at 15:30 to bring the Warriors within three at 12-9.

A 3 from the corner by Cory Dollarhide at 9:10 brought the Warriors within striking distance, and Dana Abe tied things up 24-24 with a free throw just inside the nine-minute mark. Abe used an assist from Damek Mitchell to give LC their first lead of the game, 28-26, at 6:42 and then again a minute later to go ahead 30-28. The teams continued to battle back-and-forth throughout the first half.

Montana Tech took a 42-40 lead into the locker room.

LC came out of the locker room with seven-straight points. A 3 from Mitchell put the Warriors in front 45-42 at 18:56. An 11-5 run by the Warriors gave them a slim 51-47 lead after the first five minutes of the second half.

The Warriors pushed their lead to 10 with a deep 3 from Martin at 12:15, sitting at 59-49. A basket by Martin at 5:45 capped a nine-point run, giving LC a 70-54 cushion before he gave Lewis-Clark State its largest lead of the game at 77-59 with 2:50 to play.

LC cruised through the remainder of the game to a 77-63 victory.

Martin led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor. Mitchell added 13 points and Dollarhide had 11. Martin and Dollarhide each hit three 3-pointers. White led the defense with seven rebounds while Mitchell and Abe each grabbed six. White dished out five assists. White and Hankerson both had three steals.

"Damek, Cory and Race gave us a nice lift on offense," Johnson said. "Cordel was incredible on the wing defensively and Derrick stuffed the stat sheet again. We will focus on improving this week as we approach another tough Frontier road trip."

The Warrior defense was solid and forced 17 turnovers while committing only eight. 38 of LC's points came off the bench.

The regular season wraps up next weekend on the road. LC travels to MSU-Northern on Friday for a 7 p.m. PT matchup before wrapping up Frontier Conference play on Saturday at Providence.
