Warriors Storm Past UMW in Frontier Quarterfinal

LEWISTON, Idaho – It was all Warriors from the start in the Frontier Conference Semifinal between the No. 12 Lewis-Clark State Warriors and the Montana Western Bulldogs on Wednesday night in the Activity Center. LC opened up the game with a 10-1 run and never looked back, taking the contest 94-74.

With tonight's win, senior Derrick White ties Trea Thomas as the winningest player in school history with 100 wins.

"The only thing tougher than beating a team three times in a year is trying to find a way to beat them four times in a year," coach Austin Johnson said. "They gave us a really good look tonight."

The Warriors scored eight-unanswered points in the first three minutes, with all the baskets coming from different Warriors, to take an early 10-1 lead in the first half. The Bulldogs cut the lead to three with 13:03 on the clock, but LC quickly bounced back with seven points to stretch the lead back to 10 at 10:54.

Back-to-back 3s from Cory Dollarhide and Dana Abe upped the advantage to 17, 37-20, with 4:46 to play and the Warriors held a 44-30 lead at the half.

Abe sparked a quick six-point run with a basket at 16:27, assisted by Mitchell, that saw the Warriors leading 55-37 after it was capped by Trystan Bradley a minute later.

A 3 from Race Martin gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game at 23 points, 72-51, at the 9:08 mark, and the Warriors held a lead of no less than 15 for the remainder of the contest.

Abe led the scoring efforts for LC with 17 points. Mitchell added 13, Martin had 12 and White chipped in 10.

The Warriors dished assists out like candy, tallying a whopping 26 on the night, compared to UMW's eight led by White's five. They out-rebounded the Bulldogs 32-25 and outshot them 62 percent (37-for-60) to 50 percent (26-for-52). LC totaled 11 3-pointers.

With the 100th win of his career, White ties Trea Thomas as the winningest player in school history.

"We have been fortunate to have guys with the right mindset, and when you have someone like Derrick in the program who is so unselfish and so talented, it definitely bleeds over into the other guys," Johnson said.

As the No. 2 seed in the Frontier Conference Playoffs, the Warriors will host No. 4-seeded Montana State Northern on Saturday at 7 p.m.Tickets can be purchased at the LC Athletics Ticket Office.
