LEWISTON, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season with a 9-0 sweep of NCAA DIII Whitworth on Friday.
"It is always nice to play at home," coach Kai Fong said. "The Tennis Center is a comfortable place to play. Both teams played hard. Every match is helping us get better."
In doubles action, Luca Menezes and Jackson Lee picked up a quick 8-1 win in the top spot. They finished their match in less than 30 minutes. No. 2 duo William Bruchard and Larry Magalasin pulled off a close 8-7 win and Tomas Venere and Gregory Arthur fought to an 8-6 win in the No. 3 position.
Herman Yue (No. 5 singles) and Marcus Gavelin (No. 6 singles) both won their matches 6-1, 6-1. Menezes (No. 2 singles) and Lee (No. 3 singles) both dropped just four games en route to 6-1, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2 wins, respectively. Bruchard pulled off a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the to spot and Magalasin fought to a 6-1, 7-6 win in the No. 4 spot.
The Warriors continue their home stretch on Sunday against Idaho at 9 a.m. and Whitman at 5 p.m. in the Tennis Center.
