LEWISTON, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State baseball team was happy to be home on Friday when they hosted No. 15 Vanguard in a doubleheader to kick off a four-game series. After working throughout the week to clear the snow from the field, the Warriors put up 10 runs on 10 hits in game one for a 10-5 win.

"It was great to be at home, especially after such a huge layover from the last time we played here," coach
Jake Taylor said. "With the work we put in this week it was nice to get out on the field and appreciate it."

Gerald Hein tossed a gem in game two, and paired with a four-run third inning, the Warriors swept the doubleheader with a 6-4 win.

GAME ONE: LCSC def. Vanguard 10-5
Thomas Lampkin Jr. started the bottom of the first with a bang when he pulled a ball over the left field wall to put LC up 1-0.
Darren Trainor kept it going with a single to left and
Kyle Callahan walked. An RBI groundout by
Jeff Bart doubled the lead.

The Warriors escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the second and tacked on two more in the home half of the inning.

Riley Way and Lampkin drew back-to-back walks in the inning and a wild pitch scored Way. A base hit by Trainor brought in Lampkin to grow the lead to 4-0.

Tyler Burch gave up a run but struck out two in the top of the third and LC got back to work.
Zach Needham singled and
Dalton Duarte reached on a walk to lead off the home half of the inning. A bunt by
Kody Garvin loaded the bases. A groundout brought in one run and a single by Lampkin to give the Warriors a 6-1 cushion.

Duarte sent a towering shot over the wall in left field to lead off the bottom of the fifth and bring the score to 7-1. Garvin reached on an error on a bunt before a sacrifice bunt by Way moved him to second. A single up the middle by
A.J. Davis knocked in Garvin and the Warriors led 8-1 after five.

Matt Becker took over on the mound for Burch in the top of the seventh, Burch finished his day with five strikeouts and one run allowed in six innings pitched.

The Lions scratched three across in the seventh on a three-run shot by Joe Johnson to cut the LC lead to 8-4. They added one more in the eighth.

Davis took a ball off the ankle to begin the bottom of eighth and Trainor singled to put two on and force a pitching change. Â A single to left center by Callahan loaded the bases and Davis beat the throw home on sacrifice fly by Bart. Vanguard intentionally walked Needham to reload the bases, and they stayed loaded after Garvin was hit by a pitch to bring in a run.

Trainor led the Warriors in the game with three hits and Lampkin had two. Lampkin and Bart each knocked in two runs. Lampkin stole three bases, tying a single-game record, for the second game in a row.

GAME TWO: LCSC def. Vanguard 6-4
Gerald Hein held the Lions hitless through the first two innings before surrendering the game's first run in the top of the third. They struck for a run on a hit an an error to take a 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the third saw four Warrior runs, but not hits. LC batted around with the help of five walks and a hit-by-pitch to take a 4-1 lead.

After Vanguard scored one more in the top of the inning, LC notched its first hit in the bottom of the sixth with a bunt single by Way. Lampkin Jr. doubled off the left field wall to knock in Way before scoring on a single through the left side by Trainor to push the advantage to 6-2.

Tanner Simpson took over on the mound in the top of the eighth. Hein finished his day after tossing seven innings. He allowed one earned run on three hits with one walk and nine punch outs.

Vanguard struck for a run in the top of the eighth.

Simpson got the ball in the ninth and closed it out with LC in front 6-4.

Trainor knocked in two runs to lead the offense.

The Warriors face off with the Lions again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon at Harris Field.
