Warriors Wrap Up Sweep of Corban

KEIZER, Ore. – Darren Trainor led a hard-hitting Lewis-Clark State College baseball team to a Sunday afternoon sweep of Corban University for a four-game sweep of the NAIA West series.

Behind Trainor's five-for-five effort in game one, LC won the opener 8-4 as the Warriors combined for 12 hits, while a nine-hit collective effort propelled them to the 8-2 victory in the second as they improved to 20-11-1.

"We finally started to get some timely two-out quality at-bats," coach Jake Taylor said.

He also cited the Warrior pitching staff for its effectiveness throughout the series.

"We had solid pitching all weekend," he said.

LC used seven pitchers Sunday with Jesse Parker picking up the win in the first game and Kade Woods earning it in the second.

Game 2: LCSC 8, Corban 2
A throwing error by Corban allowed the Warriors to take the first lead of the game, 1-0, in the first but the Oregon team responded with one of its own in the bottom the inning.

LC made its first big move in the fourth with three runs to pull ahead 4-1. With two out, Jeff Bart singled and scored on Makana Victorine's double. Jaden Phillips, running for Victorine, scored on Thomas Lampkin Jr.'s single to left with Jesus Duran, who was hit by a pitch, plating the final run of the inning on Kody Garvin's single to center.

LC made it 5-1 in the seventh when Riley Way, who singled with one out, scored on Bart's sacrifice fly.

The Warriors pushed three runs across in the eighth for their final scores of the game. Duran, who was hit by a pitch for the third time in the game and fourth on the day, started things off. He went to second on Lampkin's single. Both advanced with Garvin was hit by a pitch to set up Zach Needham's two-RBI single. Garvin scored the final run of the game for LC on Trainor's sacrifice fly.

Game 1: LCSC 8, Corban 4
In the opener, it was Trainor's solo home run in the top of the fifth that put the Warriors ahead, 3-2, for good.

Corban opened the scoring with two runs in the first with the Warriors responding with two in the third – one on an RBI single by Trainor and the other when Trainor scored on a Corban throwing error. After a scoreless fourth, Trainor drilled his third home run of the season with two out.

LC added two more in the sixth when Duran, who reached on a walk, scored on Bart's double. Bart advanced to third on a throwing error then scored the second run of the inning for the Warriors on a wild pitch for the 5-2 lead.

The Warriors padded their lead in the eighth – again with Duran scoring. This time he reached after being hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on Bart's single. He went to third on a fly ball by Lampkin then scored when A.J. Davis grounded out to first. Bart added the second run on a double down the left-field line by Trainor as the Warriors exited the inning with a 7-2 lead.

Bart scored the final run in the top of the ninth when, after reaching on a walk and advancing to third on Lampkin's double, he scored on a throwing error by the Corban left fielder.

The right-handed Parker improved to 3-0 with the decision.
