SALEM, Ore. – The results of the Corban Spring Invitational at Creekside Golf Club were a mixed bag for Lewis-Clark State College golf coach
Kyla Lien as her teams finished play Tuesday afternoon.
On the one hand, the women's team showed growth with its fourth-place finish. On the other, the Warrior men need to improve after finishing eighth with the Frontier Conference Championship Tournament just days away.
"The conditions were more difficult with the rain and wind," Lien said. "Most of the field had higher scores but there were a couple of them who played really well."
Low for the day for the Warriors was
Marissa Louder, who had a 79 to go with Monday's 77, but it was
Madilyn Brown who led LC. Her rounds of 74-81 gave her a 155 and a tie for sixth. Louder (156) was tied for eighth with
Lauren Hamm adding a tie for 12
th with her 159.
Courtney Ockler rounded out the scoring with a 169 – good for 28
th.
Alexandra Schmidt had a 182 (tie for 37
th) for the final Warrior 'A' score.
The Warriors combined for a 639 – just seven strokes back of Frontier Conference rival Rocky Mountain, which was third at 632. British Columbia won the tournament with a 591 with Oregon Tech second at 615.
LC also fielded a 'B' team in the women's competition with
Natalie Gonzales finishing tied for 20
th (163),
Megan Gibson tying for 24
th (165), and
Brooke Orr 34
th (178).
Justin Cox and
Carlos Davila led the LC men with 219s to tie for 19
th.
Caleb Kessler tied for 43
rd (229),
Zach Rawls tied for 53
rd (235) and
Devon Caruso tied for 55
th (237).
Eric Dahl, playing as individual, was 57
th with a 238.
Collectively, they totaled 888 in the team competition, which was won by British Columbia with an 832.
"The guys did not play well today," Lien said. "They just did not finish their rounds well. We have some work to do when we get home."
