KANSAS CITY, Missouri – After the first two meets of the season, the Lewis-Clark State cross country teams remained in the national rankings in the latest NAIA Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 Polls. The men stayed locked in at No. 10, while the women fell one spot to No. 16.
"We are encouraged that we have solidly placed ourselves in the national polls now that the regular season has started and we are up and running," coach
Mike Collins said. "We believe we are going to continue to improve and are looking to continue to move up. Our number one goal right now is winning the conference championship in both genders."
The men of Warrior cross country have shown that they are the team to beat, led by the strong junior trio of
Cole Olsen,
Chase Barrow and
Clayton VanDyke. All three placed in the top four at the Frontier Conference Preview with Barrow winning the race to help the Warriors to a first-place overall team finish. Olsen placed second and VanDyke finished fourth. Both Barrow and VanDyke have collected Frontier Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week awards.
Emily Adams has been a consistent leader on the women's side, and placed fifth at the Frontier Conference Preview. The returning All-American also has a conference weekly award under her belt this season.
"The men made a nice statement last week and need to maintain that posture as we progress," Collins said. "The women have some work to do and they know it. I have the utmost confidence in them that when it is time to perform they will step up. This next week in California should do a lot for us to see where we truly stand at the national level."
The Warriors will take part in The Master's Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif. on Sept. 28.
