CORVALLIS, Oregon – The Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball team (3-1) earned two hard-fought wins (66-54 and 90-84) against Montana State-Northern in come-from-behind fashion over the weekend, aided by big performances from the team's four seniors. The Warriors have been named the Cascade Conference Under Armour Team of the Week, making them the second LC State team in a row to earn the honor.
"Any time you play Northern you know it is going to be a battle," Head Coach Brian Orr said. "Of course, it feels good to win, but we all feel lucky just to have been able to play. You could really tell that both teams had fun competing."
Abbie Johnson and Peyton Souvenir scored 15 points each in Friday's victory over the Skylights, and Kiara Burlage added 14. A big second half helped fuel the comeback, with the Warriors outscoring MSUN 36-22. As a team, LC State forced 20 MSUN turnovers and had 11 steals while holding Northern to 15.8 percent (3-for-19) from behind the 3-point line.
Saturday's win was highlighted by a record-setting performance from Burlage. In 19 trips to the free throw line, the senior drained an LC State single-game record 18 foul shots. She made the last 13 in a row to set another LC State record. Burlage set a career-high with 34 points in the game, and Johnson scored 15 for the second game in a row. Freshman Maddie Holm added a career-high 13 points and Jansen Edmiston had 10.
