CORVALLIS, Oregon – No. 5 Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball opened the 2020-21 season with two strong wins against Yellowstone Christian over the weekend, and returning All-American Damek Mitchell showed that he is still one of the top players in the nation. The senior led the Warriors in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out nine assists. He was voted the Cascade Conference Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Player of the Week.
Mitchell shot 60 percent from the field over the weekend, and 66.7 percent from 3-point range. He tallied 11 points in game one and grabbed six rebounds and had six assists. In Saturday's contest, the Bellingham, Wash. native led the offense with 18 points, including a 4-for-5 performance from behind the 3-point line. He was 7-for-9 from the field.
