PHOENIX – The No. 19 Lewis-Clark State Baseball tied an NAIA record on Saturday when they scored a run in the top of the seventh inning. LC State has now scored a run in the last 266 games. The milestone game, though, was overshadowed by a 6-2 loss to Antelope Valley to close out the trip down south.
"It was not the effort we needed to see on our trip down south," coach Jake Taylor said. "We will need to get back to work this week with a sense of urgency before Western Oregon arrives."
The Pioneers struck early with four runs in the first three innings off starter Elias Moctezuma.
LC State notched its first hit in the seventh inning with a Jack Johnson single to left, and Brock Ephan doubled to left center to put the Warriors on the board. Ephan took third on a fly out by Dalton Harum, and scored on a single by Luke White.
Antelope Valley added a run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth and took the contest 6-2.
The Warriors tallied four hits, with one each from Johnson, Ephan, White and A.J. Davis.
Jeremy Rabauliman tossed four innings in relief and struck out five. Alec Holmes finished the game for the Warriors and collected a strikeout.
The Warriors open the 2020 home season on Feb. 7 when they host Western Oregon.
